Demystifying ADHD: How Brown, Slater, and Jinks are Helping Children

Dawn Brown, a Texas psychiatrist, is helping children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) because she was diagnosed with the neurological disorder herself at age 31.[0] Brown’s treatment plan combines medication and behavioral management, also known as ADHD coaching, which helps children learn time management and other skills. Brown is working to demystify ADHD for both parents and children, dispelling the myth that it develops from “bad” parenting. In fact, ADHD is a predominantly genetic disorder and is more under-diagnosed than most people think.[0]

In addition to Brown’s work, Uplift White Rock Hills Preparatory School teacher, Slater, is also helping children with ADHD. With 27 students in her class, Slater brings an open mind and a lot of patience.[0] Similarly, artist Jinks has developed a Sunday night tradition of spending two hours on each bag and has drawn celebrities, NBA legends, and cultural figures like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Through their work, Brown, Slater, and Jinks are helping to demystify ADHD and provide support for both parents and children.
